Hmm I was looking for this exact script, but it fails: Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near '<'.

this sounds like a drastic measure, could you not kill the connections from the tempDB (at an apporpriate time of course) and then shrink the mdf?
Or does a scheduled shrink not work at all?
If you are using a third party witness you could disable it if its not a production SQL server, this will prevent the failover from happening.

Do you know of a way to schedule an automatic failover? Our TEMPDB.MDF keeps growing and ultimately taking up all of the disk space on the disk it's on so we need to restart the SQL server service to purge that DB. Unfortunately, when we do this, it causes a database failover to the mirror server. Is there a way to add that failover to a batch job that will stop/start the SQL server service?

brek the mirror then run the script, then re-mirror, that should fix it.

Ah, thanks. This is exactly the problem we were having. I'm able to generate the command to add the login to the mirror, but it does not complete because it says the database cannot be opened "it is acting as a mirror database"

What can I do?
